1 tablespoon butter
1 yellow onion, finely chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2/3 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 tablespoons butter
8 slices Texas Toast
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Directions:
Place the butter in a large skillet and bring to medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the onion and bell pepper. Sauté for 5 minutes, until softened. Then add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Add the ground beef and cook, until evenly browned. Drain liquid from the skillet.
Return the skillet to the stovetop and stir in the Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, ketchup. Season with salt and pepper. Let simmer untouched for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Set aside.
Preheat a griddle to medium.
Spread butter on one side of each slice of Texas Toast. Place four slices of Texas Toast butter side down on the griddle. Sprinkle a 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar on each slice, followed by a generous scoop of the Sloppy Joe mixture, and then add another 1/4 cup of cheese on top. Place a second slice of Texas Toast on top of the butter side up. Cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Carefully flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Transfer to a plate to cool.
